THE OTAGO WITNESS
24 Nov 1860
The schooner Ellen of this port, the property of
Messrs. Stone and Cook, sailed from Dunedin, in
ballast, on the 1st o Jun last, bound for Auckland,
under the command of Mr. Benjamin Richards, former-
ly master of the ketch Traveller's Bride, with the
following passengers - Mr. and Mrs. Leon Casney
and a child. Since that time neither trace nor in-
telligence of the unfortunate vessel has been re-
ceived. A vessel was fallen in with, bottom up-
wards, between this and Wellington, which was
then supposed to have been the Canterbury, but as
her saftey has been subsequently ascertained, it is
now conjectured that the wreck seen must have
been that of the luckless Ellen.
